Happy New Year

short fiction // dir. Selda Kaya // prod. Marie Nasemann //2023

In the 1920s, Marlene attends a lavish New Year's Eve party and discovers a personal betrayal. Unable to voice her anger directly in the refined society around her, she signals the pianist to play Marlene Dietrich's "Ich weiß nicht zu wem ich gehöre". Her voice, raw and defiant, challenges societal norms of femininity. Marlene's performance becomes an act of self-expression and resistance, embodying a moment where fragility and strength coexist.
